Hybrid Battery Module vs Pack: What’s the Difference?

Understanding the components of your hybrid battery system.

Hybrid battery module vs pack

What Is a Battery Module?

A hybrid battery module is an individual unit within the battery pack. Each NiMH module contains multiple cells and produces 7.2V. A Prius pack contains 28 modules; a Camry pack contains 34 modules. When a single module fails, it triggers codes like P3011, P3012, or P3013.

What Is a Battery Pack?

The battery pack is the complete assembly — all modules plus the housing, bus bars, wiring harness, cooling system, and battery ECU. The pack is what installs into the vehicle. P0A80 indicates the entire pack needs replacement.

Module vs Pack Replacement

Some shops offer individual module replacement, but this is a short-term fix. In Phoenix’s heat, if one module has failed, others are close behind. Full pack replacement is the reliable solution. Hybrid Matters offers complete pack replacement: 28-cell from $800, 34-cell from $1,000.
